Bienvenidos a Chimbote! Posted on January 7th, 2012 by

Hola family and friends! We have reached Chimbote safe and sound. After a total of 8 1/2 hours of air travel, we arrived in Lima and had to travel a bit more to our hotel last night. After 4 hours of rest, we were up at 6:30am and travelled an additional 6 1/2 hours by bus to Chimbote.

We were welcomed at the mission by Father Jack and Sister Peggy with open arms. After a brief introduction and settling in we learned a little about the mission and Father Jack’s work (who celebrated 26 years of missionary work in the area yesterday!). We are excited to start our work on Monday working with the community in the areas of health care and education.  The parish’s mission statement here is:

“It is not God’s will that poverty exists, thus we try to eliminate poverty and alleviate the suffering it causes.”

Happy birthday to David (turning 21 in Chimbote!)

Also, happy birthday to Danika’s sister, Kallan Brie who is a quarter century old!

(A written collaboration from students on the trip)
