From New Delhi to Nepal Posted on January 16th, 2014 by

We woke up in New Delhi, had breakfast and were ready to go by 7:30. We rode on the bus to the airport in Delhi.  The traffic and airport security took awhile but we made our plane! It was a short plane ride, only an hour long, to Kathmandu, Nepal. It was a breathtaking view as the plane was descending! After going through customs we went on the bus to Share and Care Nepal where we will be staying for two nights. From Share and Care, we have a beautiful view of the valley filled with houses! We ate lunch at Share and Care, which was delicious. Then we got back on the bus and went to the Primary Health Care Center in a nearby village. We got to see more of Nepal and it’s beautiful hills, mountains, and villages! We toured the health care center and learned about the different specialties they have to offer.  The different buildings include; obstetrics, emergency and trauma rooms, pediatrics, pharmacy, x-ray, laboratory, and a record keeping office.  Across the street was a monastery that we were able to visit.  We observed a religious chant from the monks.  The building was brightly colored with intricate designs.  On the bus ride back to Share and Care, we stopped at a very small store to get snacks.  It was so exciting for us to see Snickers candy bars!  Even though India and Nepal both use rupees, the exchange rate is different so we were able to see Nepalese rupees.  We enjoyed a nice walk back to the hotel while saying hi to a couple local kids on the way.  We had some free time to journal and reflect on our experiences before dinner and our nightly group discussion.  Our first impression about Nepal was that it’s a very beautiful country with a much slower pace than Mumbai, India.  We can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
