Today twelve of us hiked into the Penang National Park, from the entrance at Teluk Bahang out to the famous Monkey Beach. The 5 km trek in, which followed the coastline, was full of uneven terrain, rocks, fallen trees, and lots of ups and downs! We managed to reach there in about an hour and a half, and many of the students went for a dip in the warm ocean water before we ate a lunch of fresh-cooked fried noodles and fried rice at a small kedai (shop). Of course, wandering further along the beach we did find the namesake monkeys – long-tailed macaques. After the trek back, and a stop for a drink in Batu Feringghi, several of the students fell asleep in the cars on the way back to USM. We’ll all sleep well tonight!
