Blog Update 3: Scavenger Hunt and Europa Posted on January 5th, 2015 by

We began this afternoon following lunch with some physical activity in the form of a digital scavenger hunt that was meant to take us around the Gustavus Campus and Saint Peter in a facsimile of how we are supposed to behave in other countries. We experienced searching for Art and Historic monuments around campus, asking strangers for directions to places we had never been before and to get us out of our comfort zones, even trying to learn bits of new language. We broke for dinner and then reconvened to watch a fascinating film on the German looting of valuable and significant artworks from around Europe during World War Two called The Rape of Europa. It gave us a new perspective on the atrocities committed during World War two not only against people, but also against culture itself. Great efforts were made to save and restore the artworks and buildings, the United States even had a special group to try and save these pieces of Art called the “Monuments Men”. Overall it was a very informative and exciting afternoon.
