Journey to Wittenberg! Posted on January 13th, 2015 by

Guten tag! Ben Bonser and Steve Eiden here coming at you from Wittenberg, Germany!! Today began with another delicious breakfast at our hotel in Berlin. Soon after, we departed for Checkpoint Charlie and its museum. Inside, it was deceptively large in comparison to its seemingly small exterior. It was filled incredible artifacts including devices and vehicles that were utilized to make an escape from East Berlin to West Berlin. One that particularly stood out from the rest was what looked like a combination of a helicopter, go-kart, and a Laz-e-boy recliner. What was incredible about it was that it made a 12 minute mission from the west side to the east and back again successfully. 12 minutes!!! To us that was amazing.
The rest of the day consisted of a 2 1/2 hour bus ride and arrival at Wittenberg. Once there, we explored for an hour or two until we rendezvoused at the Castle Church. Unfortunately, in preparation for the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, the church was closed for maintenance. So instead we began a guided tour of the city. It was rather chilly but the amounts of knowledge we gained truly warmed the soul. Such as learning about the various figures involved in the Reformation like Martin Luther’s wife Catharina and Frederick the Wise just to name a few.
Well, we got a long month ahead of us full of excitement so we better get some rest. This has been Ben Bonser and Steve Eiden with your daily Olympic Quest update!

B (and Steve)… you guys are such good writers! LOVE THIS! Sorry the Wiitenberg experience was a little Chevy Chase in Vacation. Shoulda forced your way in for the photo opp. That’s what Luther would’ve done.

Blessings on the continued journey to ya’ll!
