A Heavy Day of Experiencing and Exploring Posted on January 28th, 2015 by

As Kirsten points out in her blog post, our day began in the town of Dachau at the site of the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial.  We spent over four hours reflecting and remembering the thousands of people who died during their imprisonment at the camp from 1933 to 1945.  It was truly an exhausting day both mentally and emotionally and will be an experience we will not soon forget.  Given the intensity of that event we planned our afternoon to be completely open to allow each of us to “recharge.”  Traveling in groups we all took off in different directions, taking in as much as Munich has to offer.

Myself and a handful of others hopped on the U-Bahn and headed to BMW World where we had the opportunity to view and sit in some of the most expensive cars the company makes.  The car that stole the show was none other than the BMW i8 valued at $135,000.  After a half hour of ogling and dreaming we came to the conclusion that we probably will never own this majestic piece of art on wheels and left to try our luck at a much more realistic endeavor, the Olympics.

In 1972 Munich hosted the Olympic Summer Games.  To prepare for such a major event the city built a state of the art sporting complex complete with an Olympic size pool, track & field stadium, and much more.  Olympic Park, as it is known, is now open to the public and used for public events like sporting contests, concerts, and rallies.  The tented style roofs of the buildings sure are unique but were voted unanimously ugly by the group.  After walking the complex we were all sufficiently winded and concluded that we also would probably never compete in the Olympic games and promptly headed back into the city to find refreshments.
