Last day in Bremen Posted on January 10th, 2015 by

We started out the day with a very good breakfast at the hotel. The hotel provided breakfast for the group and it had quite the selection. After this we went on a walking tour of Bremen. Our tour guide met us in the lobby of our hotel and then we were off. We saw many things and learned a lot about the history of Bremen. We got to see the two town halls of Bremen, the new and the old. One was about 500 years older than the other and this was because the city was growing so fast and the old town hall was not big enough for the growing population. During this tour we got to see a few different parts of the city. We saw some old houses that looked beautiful, but we learned that back in the day these houses were not as good as what we perceive them as today. Another interesting thing that we saw by the town halls was the statue depicting the four musicians of Bremen. These four musicians consisted of a donkey, a dog, a cat, and a rooster. These musicians were a part of a folktale recorded by the Brothers Grimm.  After the city tour we went to lunch. Some others and I stopped at a small restaurant on the side of a street and had a bratwurst. Here I had a small conversation with the lady working at the restaurant and it was the first time I have had a conversation in German with another person here, so that was very fun for me.   After lunch we took a street car to another part of the city and went to Beck’s brewery. The walk from the street car to the brewery was quite the adventure. It was really windy and raining on the walk there, and when we got there we were all pretty wet. When we finally got through the rain and wind, we got to watch a video on the history of the brewery and then we got a tour of the place. It was pretty cool because this brewery ships internationally with the beer brand Beck’s and they also ship another beer called Haake-Becks to area’s about 100 kilometers around Bremen. After the tour, we were able to test both of these beers which was interesting to see the difference between the international and local style. After we left Beck’s brewery, we took the street car back to the hotel and had a few minutes to get ready for dinner. For dinner we went to a place called Leos Restaurant. Here we had some very good pasta and for desert we had creme brulee. Leo’s restaurant was delicious. We stayed there for a couple of hours and visited and this is where we ended the night. Today was very eventful and our last night in Bremen. Tomorrow we are headed to Ostfriesland at 8:30am.
